OBTAINING A REGULAR DRIVER’S LICENSE
Applicants along with all relevant documents should be presented in person or through an authorized representative at the District Offices of the Road Transport Department.
For the issuance of a driver’s license for the first time, the following must be submitted:
• Application for the issuance of a driver’s license, (TOM 7D). For the application document Click here .
• A recent photo of size 45×35 mm
• Identity Card.
• Certificate of successful examination
• Proof that the applicant has a habitual residence in the Republic
Notes :
· In case the applicant holds a valid driver’s license, attach the valid driver’s license.
· In the event of an application to obtain a Normal Motor Vehicle Driving License of categories C, C+E, D, D+E, C1, C1+E, D1, D1+E and special categories G, H, I, the applicant must provide health certificate . The same applies to people who intend to use their category B motor vehicle driving license for the professional transport of passengers or to people aged 70 and over. In case of physically disabled persons, a health certificate is required.
Right to obtain a Normal Driving License :
- If you are 20 years old, you can apply for category A2 provided that you have held a category A1 driver’s license for at least two years.
- If you are 22 years old, you can apply for category A provided that you have held a category A2 driver’s license for at least two years.
- To apply for categories C1, C, D1 and D you must hold a driving license of category B.
- To apply for categories B+E, C1+E, C+E, D1+E and D+ You must hold a driving license of categories B, C1, C, D1 and D, respectively.
- A driving license valid for categories C1+E, C+E, D1+E or D+E is also valid for driving vehicles of category B+E.
- A driving license that is valid for category C+E is also valid for category D+E, provided that its holder is also the holder of a driving license for category D. 7) A driving license that is valid for categories A1, A2, A is
- valid and for driving class AM vehicles.
- A driving license valid for category A2 is also valid for category A1 and AM vehicles.
- A driving license valid for category A is also valid for vehicles of categories A1, A2 and AM, for category B it is also valid for vehicles of category B1, for category C it is also valid for vehicles of category C1 and for category D it is also valid for vehicles of category D1
- A driving license valid for categories C+E or D+E is also valid for driving vehicles of category C1+E or D1+E respectively.
- A driving license valid for category C is also valid for driving vehicles of category B and special categories H, I, Z and S.
- A driving license valid for category D1 is also valid for driving vehicles of category B and special category F.
- A driving license valid for any category or special category for a non-electric vehicle, is valid for the special category IB for a corresponding vehicle.
REGULAR DRIVER’S LICENSE RENEWAL
Applicants along with all relevant documents should present themselves in person or through a representative at the District Offices of the Road Transport Department or Citizen Service Centers or KEPOs of the Department of Postal Services.
To renew a driver’s license, the following must be submitted:

• Previous driver’s license or learner’s driver’s license.
• Evidence that the applicant has a habitual residence in the Republic.
Notes :
· In the case of applicants for the renewal of a Normal Driving License, who are 70 years of age or older or applicants over the age of 65 for the renewal of a Normal Driving License of category C, C+E, D, D+E, C1, C1+E, D1 , D1+E and the special categories Z, H, I, and physically disabled, a Health Certificate is required.
The renewal of a normal driving license for people aged 70 and over is valid for three years.
The issuance of a normal driving license is governed by the Driving License Law of 94(I)/2001.
